    Let context click

Local file rules work instantly. Optional AI can add context when a name, document, or company needs more understanding.

  3. 03

    Stay in control

Preview the plan, inspect the history, reveal any file in Finder, and undo eligible moves whenever you need to.

01 / PREVIEW

See the plan before anything moves.

Preview mode classifies files and builds a change plan without touching the file system. Turn it off only when the result feels right.

  • Safe by default on first launch
  • Today’s files stay where they are
  • Clear metrics, folders, and recent activity

02 / HISTORY

A clear recent trail, not a black box.

Up to 2,000 recent planned, moved, restored, skipped, or failed operations stay visible. Search the log, filter by status, or undo an eligible move.

03 / CHOICE

Intelligence on your terms.

Use fast local classification on its own, or connect your own OpenAI API key for richer document context and careful filename prefixes.

  • Local fallback works without a key
  • Content analysis is separately controlled
  • Full original names are preserved

LOCAL ENGINE01

SMART NAMES02

Meaning, without losing the original.

#

Match the bytes. Keep the choice.

SHA-256 detection finds identical copies. MagicFiles never deletes them automatically — removal is always a manual move to Trash.

Organization happens on your Mac. MagicFiles is deliberate about what can leave it — and puts that choice in Settings.

01

Local moves

Files are moved between folders on your Mac, never handed to a remote file manager.

02

No full-file upload

Optional AI may use file metadata without your local path. Content analysis can add limited extracts or reduced previews. Full files are not sent.

The useful questions

Before MagicFiles
meets your Downloads.

Clear answers, with no magic tricks hidden in the fine print.

File moves happen locally. If you enable optional AI classification, metadata such as the filename, extension or file type, size, and dates may be sent to OpenAI without your local file-system path. If you separately enable content analysis, MagicFiles may also send a limited text extract, a reduced image preview, or a list of up to 100 item names from a folder. Full files are not sent.

No. The local engine works without a key and recognizes more than 1,200 extensions. Your own OpenAI API key is optional and helps with ambiguous documents, richer context, and careful filename prefixes.

They stay where they are. Starting the next calendar day, eligible items move into Recent 3 days. After that window they move into their long-term location under AI Folders.

Never automatically. MagicFiles identifies byte-for-byte duplicates with SHA-256 and shows them for review. Deleting a copy is always a manual action, and it goes to Trash.

Yes. Preview mode creates the plan without moving files. When real moves are enabled, a durable history records the operation and lets you undo eligible moves.
